The New York Mets used yesterday’s home opener as an opportunity to honour Gary Carter, who passed away recently after a battle with cancer.And while the Mets are often criticised for bungling operations, they got this one right. In fact, it was perfect.

Fans showed their love for The Kid

The tribute included a video shown on the scoreboard

The video was a collection of highlights from his career

And former teammates recalled Carter's time with the team

The team also provided all the current players with Gary Carter jerseys

The players honored Carter by wearing his jersey during warmups

Members of Carter's family threw out first pitches to his former teammates

And the team added a home plate-shaped graphic to the outfield wall
