More than 1 million people clung to vantage points on Sydney Harbour to watch Australia’s largest New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Police say most people behaved responsibly. “Finishing on such a safe night and the fact that Sydneysiders were so well-behaved again, it was important for me to say happy New Years,” says assistant police commissioner Mick Fuller.

The $7 million Sydney fireworks had a theme of “city of colour”.
