With the Track & Field portion of the Olympics now at full speed, one of the cooler aspects of NBC’s coverage has been the super slo-mo view of the runners approaching the finish line. The view gives the viewers an amazing perspective on the faces of the runners that are pushing their bodies to the brink of exhaustion.

Whether it is just the emotional responses or just the contortions of travelling at high speed, the close-up views of the runners have been mesmerizing.

On the next few pages we’ll show you some of our favourites from this past weekend…

Some of the best views are when we can contrast the faces of several runners at once

In the men's 10,000 meters we saw the surprise of victory and the screams of American silver

In the men's 100 meters, we saw the strain of trying to keep up with Usain Bolt

And like Bolt, Sanya Richards-Ross was calm, unlike her competitors in the women's 400 meters

This Saudi Arabian runner had his eyes on the finish line

Yohan Blake showed us his scrunchy face in the 100 meter semifinals

No runner's face was more contorted than Tyson Gay

His face looks like it is pain when he is running

Justin Gatlin showed us the emotional release after his semifinal heat

Special bonus from the triple-jump and gold medalist Olga Rypakova

The cheeks of the fastest man alive had trouble dealing with the stress

And of course, Bolt's facial expressions are not limited to when he is running

Now check out some Olympians that prefer to fly
