Miguel Cabrera Receives Standing Ovation After Winning First Triple Crown In 45 Years

Miguel Cabrera became the first player in 45 years to win the Triple Crown in baseball, leading the American League in batting average (.330), home runs (44), and runs batted in (139). And there is a good chance he will be honored with the A.L. Most Valuable Player award when that is announced next month.

But in the meantime, the Tigers fans and Royals fans in Kansas City gave Cabrera a standing ovation as he was pulled from last night’s game in the fourth inning. In addition, Major League Baseball will run a full-page ad (see below) congratulating Cabrera on the achievement. The ad will appear in several Detroit newspapers as well as USA Today.
