Philip Rivers has stunk this season.Last night’s total choke-job is just the beginning.
Through six games he has seven touchdowns and 16 turnovers. And behind stats, his Chargers squad has played like crap despite its decent-looking 4-3 record.
So what’s going on?
Here are the popular explanations:
We overrated him in the first place. Nope. The stats back up the public consensus that he’s one of the best QBs in the league.
In addition, he has been at the helm of 14-,11-, and 13-win teams in his career. Which suggets that his propensity to blow games in the fourth quarter in 2011 is new.
He lacks weapons. Nope. He still has Vincent Jackson and Antonio Gates. Plus the Ryan Matthews/Mike Tolbert running back combo is lethal. His team is loaded.
They’ve played good teams. Nope! He’s been awful against Minnesota, Kansas City (twice), Miami, and Denver.
He’s hurt. This is the explanation that people find most plausible. We haven’t heard any specific details about an injury. But what else could it possibly be? Star plays don’t just start sucking, right?
