Two middle-of-the-night text messages played a key role bringing superstar cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to Philadelphia.According to Sports Illustrated’s Peter King, Eagles GM Howie Roseman and Asomugha’s agent Ben Dogra texted each other late Thursday night after it was believed that the Eagles were out of the running for Nnamdi.
“Are u sure ….. be bold. Best deal in history,” Dogra texted at 12:38 a.m.
Just a few seconds before that, Roseman had texted Dogra:
“Thanks for taking the time today. I appreciate the process. We need more of ur guys here.”
The two got on the phone, and hashed out the outline of a contract until 3 a.m.
“Don’t you think it’s strange we haven’t communicated in five or six hours, and all of sudden we send each other texts at exactly the same time? Are you sure we don’t want to explore this one last time?” Dogra asked the Eagles GM before making the deal happen.
Asomugha had interest in both the Eagles and the Jets, but thought Philly gave him a better chance of winning the Super Bowl in the next three or four years.
