According to Sam Amick of SI.com, Phil Jackson may join the Orlando Magic front office after all. And if he does, look for Scottie Pippen to come along for the ride. After initially turning down a chance to join the Magic in order to “go with another opportunity,” Jackson is once again considering a role with the team that would not require him to be in Orlando. According to Amick, Jackson would spend just one week each month in Orlando and likely spend the rest of his time working from Los Angeles.
However, unlike the last proposal when it was speculated that Pippen would be the Magic’s head coach under Jackson, this new scenario would include Brian Shaw as the head coach and Pippen would be his lead assistant coach. Shaw was an assistant coach under Jackson with the Lakers.
The feeling appears to be that Jackson would help convince Dwight Howard to stay in Orlando. However, Magic CEO Alex Martins may be against the idea of having a key executive working elsewhere.
