The Peyton Manning story that has hijacked Super Bowl week intensified today with a Yahoo! report that his career might be over.
Two sources with knowledge of Manning’s rehab told Yahoo!’s Jason Cole that his injured neck isn’t making any progress.
In addition, two “league-affiliated doctors with experience in spinal fusion surgery,” told Cole that Manning won’t know if he can play for at least a year.
Manning himself disagrees.
He attempted to dispel those rumours today in an interview with ESPN, saying, “I’m very encouraged by what [doctors] have said. Everything’s right on point, I’ll be cleared and ready to play.”
Bottom line: All signs to point Manning attempting to come back in 2012. But oftentimes rumours that feel premature at first glance turn out to be true, so file it away.
