Outgoing New York Times restaurant critic Sam Sifton has finally revealed his pick for the best restaurant in New York City. The honour goes to Per Se, the Thomas Keller restaurant in the Time Warner centre that’s known as much for its astronomical prices as the ornate parade of delicacies that appear seamlessly before diners.
In a four-star review in tomorrow’s dining section, Sifton writes:
So this is the best restaurant in New York City: Per Se, in the Time Warner centre, just up the escalator from the mall, a jewel amid the zirconia.
I make the argument unreservedly. I have eaten in restaurants five or more nights a week for the last two years, always in search of the best and most delectable, the most interesting and important. And I have come back again and again to Per Se to find it.
If you thought Per Se was impossible to get into before, just try calling up to reserve a table now.
