The top Pentagon spokeswoman is reportedly under investigation for misusing her staff, CNN reports, citing four sources familiar with the situation.
Dana White, a Trump political appointee who reports directly to Secretary of Defence James Mattis, allegedly sent staff members to handle her personal chores, including fetching her dry cleaning, picking up snacks, driving her to the Pentagon, and even helping her with her personal finances.
There are accusations that she retaliated against those who complained by transferring them inappropriately. These allegations have not been independently substantiated or corroborated by Business Insider.
Some staffers are said to have voluntarily helped White with her errands, but allowing them to do so would still be considered an ethics violation.
Now, the Department of Defence Office of the Inspector General is reportedly investigating White for potential ethics violations, as the Pentagon’s ethics standards clearly state that “a DoD official may not direct or request subordinates to use official time to perform any activities other than official activities.”
The investigation has not yet found White to be in violation of any federal rules or policies. The inspector general refused to acknowledge the existence of any investigation when Business Insider reached out for comment. Charles Summers, the principal deputy assistant to the secretary for public affairs, told CNN that “this is an ongoing review about which we cannot comment.”
