If you believe Patch president Warren Webster, the local site conglomerate is going great, but we heard from one writer who was let go from the San Francisco/Bay Area Patch on Thursday.
The source writes:
I just got laid off from Patch today after a year with the company as a calendar editor. Just FYI.
Another calendar editor got laid off Tuesday. We’re in the SF Bay Area. They are going in a “different direction” with the calendars.
Of course, this news does not mean Patch is in trouble. It is probably a smart — although, of course, unfortunate — move. AOL spends too much money on Patch every year, and they need to cut back expenditures.
We do wonder if this is a sign of more cuts to come. The story from the West Coast is consistent with what we’ve heard about budgets begin reduced.
The question is how much will AOL chop.
We’ll keep digging but drop us a line if you know anything (Noah Davis: 646.376.6016 or [email protected])
