Oracle just scored big in its efforts to steal away Hewlett Packard’s resellers and ultimately its customers. One of HP’s top executives in charge of building a reseller channel has jumped ship to Oracle, reports CRN. Tom LaRocca was a 12-year HP veteran.

Although neither company has formally commented on the move yet, LaRocca’s LinkedIn profile gave him away. He will become Oracle’s vice president of worldwide product strategy and alliances.

Oracle is making HP’s partners a special area of focus hoping to grab more small and mid-sized customers through them, CRN says. Oracle in particular wants to sell more Oracle Database Appliances.

LaRocca was formerly HP’s vice president of marketing and strategy in HP’s Solution Partners organisation (SPO).  It was his job to oversee all the promotions that gets resellers excited to sell HP products. Unfortunately, one of his last assignments was to get them excited about HP WebOS.
