Just two days after Amazon announced Amazon Prime had arrived in Australia, eBay just announced a huge shopping event for eBay Plus members.

It follows the recent launch of eBay’s premium shopping membership, eBay Plus.

It costs $49 a year, with a current introductory price of $29, which gets members unlimited free delivery and returns on 15 million eligible items, as well as exclusive access to special deals, double flybuys points and dedicated customer service.

To compare, Amazon Prime in Australia costs $6.99 monthly, or $59 a year. Until the end of January 2019, the monthly price is discounted to $4.99. It gets members free delivery, access to Prime Video, more than 1,000 e-books with Prime Reading, benefits for gamers with Twitch Prime, and discounted priority delivery.

eBay Plus Members will have access to the 48-hour shopping event with up to 72% off 15 million iitems, plus 12 deals, revealed hourly, between 10am Saturday, June 23, and midnight Sunday, June 24.

Big brand names are on offer, including Dyson, Samsung and Go Pro, from stores such as Myer, Target and The Good Guys.

Julie Nestor, Chief Marketing Officer of eBay Australia & New Zealand, said: “Black Friday and Cyber Monday have taken the world by storm, so it’s exciting to be the first marketplace to offer an exclusive event for the Australian online retail industry.”

Those uwilling to commit can trial eBay Plus free for 30 days, and take advantage of Plus Weekend without needing to pay.
