Olive Garden has decided to change things up so that it’ll appeal more to the “modern family,” reports Candice Choi at the AP.”We had been more about this traditional family meal – that long, lingering meal, with lots of laughter, lots of joy. It was a very stereotypical Italian family dinner,” Olive Garden marketing EVP Jay Spenchian tells the AP.
Olive Garden has been touting its “When You’re Here, You’re Family” tagline for the past 14 years.
Now, it’s going with Julie Bowen, an actress on a popular TV show “Modern Family” to provide the voiceover for its ads.
It doesn’t want to be thought as a place you go to solely for family dinners. Olive Garden would like diners to come in any time.
Why’s Olive Garden doing this?
It’s just the first phase of a year-long revamp plan for the brand by parent Darden Restaurants. Olive Garden has had its problems lately, and sales have been struggling. Casual dining restaurants as a whole have seen increased pressure from upstart fast casual chains like Panera Bread and Chipotle.
