An Ohio State Football Player Says College Athletes Shouldn't Have To Go To Class

There have been a lot of intelligent things written about the contradiction in treating football players like “student-athletes” while simultaneously using them as unpaid labour in a multi-billion dollar industry.

This is not one of them.

Ohio State’s freshman QB Cardale Jones took to Twitter today to complain about having to go to class (via Deadspin):

He has since deleted the tweet.

To be fair, every college freshman has an overwhelming sense of hatred toward going to class at some point (especially at 8:43 on a Friday morning). But given Jones’ status — as well as the fact that a scandal involving athletes getting preferential treatment took down Ohio State in recent years — this is just not smart all around.
