Here’s some evidence of the gold craze: a businessman was just caught carrying 22 pounds of gold on a flight between two cities in India.
Yesterday morning, income tax officials caught an unnamed businessmen travelling with ~$667,000 in gold bars and “biscuits” on an overnight flight from New Delhi to Guwati.
The officials grabbed him as he de-planed.
From the Times of India:
[An official said,] “We conducted an operation after getting a prior information about the consignment and have successfully seized the gold which was brought from New Delhi. This was supposed to go to some other parts of the northeastern region via Guwahati.
“The gold was in shape of bricks and biscuits and is one of the biggest haul by the IT department. We have also nabbed a person who was carrying it. It’s very mysterious how he managed to board the flight from New Delhi with such a huge quantity of gold.”
The gold weighed 10KG and is said to be worth 3 crore rupees (worth about $667,000).
Officials haven’t released his name yet, but apparently he works in construction.
