Big things are happening for Instagram. The photo sharing mobile app reached 10 million downloads in half the time it took Foursquare. Then it hired eight people. Investors are beating down its doors. And now, Obama has joined in on the action. Yesterday he created an Instagram account under the handle @BarackObama, reports TechCrunch.
Obama is no stranger to up-and-coming technology. He already has a Tumblr account; he’s active on Google+, Foursquare, Twitter and Facebook. Instagram is only on the iPhone though, and last we checked Obama didn’t have one. We smell an intern.
Instagram cofounder and CEO Kevin Systrom writes, “We look forward to seeing how campaigns, reporters and voters use Instagram to tell the story of the 2012 Presidential Election through photos.”
Obama already has more than 14,000 Instagram followers. Here’s his first posted picture.
