Oakland Police Fired Tear-Gas On Crowds That Included Children

Police deployed tear gas  on Occupy protestors in downtown Oakland, according  to Robert Salonga. who tweeted this photo. The crowd included children like the one in the lower-right corner with the pink backpack.

Gavin Aronsen, a reporter for Mother Jones, also tweeted that street clashes between Occupy Oakland and the Oakland Police department were escalating. Here is a police officer who “shoved a young woman” and another officer seen dragging a man that has been arrested:

Minutes later, Aronsen tweeted that the area has been reclaimed by Occupy Oakland:

Josh Harkinson, another staff writer for Mother Jones Magazine based in San Francisco, was on the street in Oakland today contributing to their coverage and captured the confrontation that triggered the escalating tension between Oakland Police and Occupy Oakland.

Harkinson tweeted that it all started when the police officers chased, tackled, and arrested a woman on a bike.

It was after that the Oakland Police deployed tear gas on the nearby crowd.
