Oakland Mayor Apologizes After Police Took Medical Supplies From Protesters

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan has been rapidly losing support since last week’s crackdown against Occupy Oakland.

Stories like this aren’t helping (via SF Gate).

Today Quan vowed to return medical supplies that police took from Occupy Oakland’s camp — but only after protesters threatened to invade her office. By supplies we’re talking about thousands of dollars of donated medicines and equipment including pain killers and bandages.

“The cops took everything we were using,” said Clara Barton, an Oakland RN. “First they lied about sanitary conditions in the camp, then they stop the people who were trying to do something about it.”

This is probably why, despite Quan’s apology, Occupy Oakland is still calling for a massive city-wide strike tomorrow.

Here’s a list of organisations endorsing it:

  • U.C. United Auto Workers Local
  • Alameda Central labour Council
  • Philippine Airline Workers
  • Berkeley Federation of Teachers
  • Oakland Teachers Union
  • Carpenters Local 713 endorses General Strike
