The main reason that the Chinatown Bus companies were shut down last week was concerns for the safety of the passengers.
And they weren’t unfounded, as 28 people were killed in crashes from the discount lines in 2011 alone.
The National Transportation Safety Board just completed their investigation into one of the most horrific crashes of 2011. It happened when a bus overturned on the New York Thruway and slid into a sign pole that sheared off the roof, killing 15 people.
The NTSB also released a computer animation of the events that led up to the crash. It is quite revealing in how the accident happened. It also shows just how unlucky the passengers were. If it had happened just 100 feet later, it may not have been nearly as serious.
