Notre Dame’s football team has a perfect record this season, and now the school is selling out of fan gear. The school has sold more than 140,000 fan t-shirts this year, ESPN’s Darren Rovell tweeted earlier today. They’re likely to sell out of Fighting Irish shirts for the first time in six years.

Rovell also said that the school’s stores are receiving 200 to 300 boxes of new merchandise every single day.

Notre Dame’s t-shirts are an example of why schools invest so heavily in athletics. When your team is successful, the payout is very good.

The official 2012 shirt is $18, meaning that the school has raked in $2.5 million from that item alone.

Another huge football program, Ohio State, told the Sports Business Journal that their in-house retail brand generates $3.2 million and $3.6 million annually in on-site and online retail sales,
