4 reasons why you need to visit Australia's Northern Territory

When you think of travelling in Australia, images of white sand beaches, the Sydney Opera House, or the Great Barrier Reef may spring to mind.

And while they are all popular destinations, it’s tour companies in the Northern Territory, home to Uluru, that are seeing the biggest growth in bookings, according to TripAdvisor’s Seasonal Experiences Trend Index.

The index is based on the year-on-year percentage increase in bookings on TripAdvisor, and all tours have at least a four-star ranking.

Here are the most popular tours and travel experiences in Australia’s Northern Territory right now:

1. Kakadu, Nourlangie and Yellow Waters tour from Darwin

On this tour you’ll head to Kakadu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A stop-off at Nourlangie Rock is included, where there’s fantastic ancient traditional Aboriginal rock art.

Afterwards, hop onboard a cruise along the Yellow Water billabong to explore wetlands and mangrove swamps.

Keep an eye out for the saltwater crocodiles that can be seen along the banks.

2. Katherine day tour including Katherine Gorge cruise from Darwin

Start the tour of the beautiful Katherine Gorge with a picnic by Edith Falls.

You’ll then drive to the sandstone wonder of Nitmiluk National Park, followed by a two-hour scenic river cruise where you will learn about the region’s geology and Aboriginal history.

The tour concludes with an afternoon exploring the quaint, historic gold-mining townships of Katherine and Pine Creek.

A perfect tour for a hot Northern Territory day.

You’ll visit the natural attractions of Litchfield National Park, home to six-metre high termite mounds.
