The college basketball season officially began Monday night. But the “real” start to the year begins Friday when North Carolina and Michigan State meet.
On a boat.
The Tar Heels and Spartans will take the court aboard the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego for “The Carrier Classic.” Preparation for the game is well underway.
And now, thanks to MSU’s director of basketball operations, we have a visual of the venue’s setup aboard the ship.
It’s pretty cool. And should make for a fascinating telecast.
Unless, of course, Mother Nature has her say. There are already reports that a Pacific storm is brewing and will hit at or around tip time.
If that happens, the game will be moved below deck to the ship’s hangar bay. Which could no longer host all 7,000 ticketholders. But would still provide enough room to house a regulation-length basketball court.
Which is fascinating in its own right.
