Nintendo might have just launched in all markets, but the novelty of 3D could already be wearing off as the PSP is once again gaining the momentum of sales in the Land of the Rising Sun. Total sales for all models of PSP (including PSPgo) came up to 51,095 while the 3DS only managed to gain an additional 50,710 units, says tracking firm Media Create.
This is a stark contrast to last week’s numbers, in which the PSP only managed 23,511 to the 3DS’s 61,394. That’s a rather quick turnaround for the new device, already bested by a handheld that has enjoyed almost 6 years on the marketplace.
These sales figures for the PSP perhaps correlate strongly to the release of the latest Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection.
While this might be an early indicator of success rates for the new handheld for Nintendo, the big summer titles have yet to be released. Sales are likely to pick up as the release slate improves.
