Gawker boss Nick Denton owes Vyou CMO Rex Sorgatz $100.
After a controversial “post-blog” re-design of the entire Gawker network – that readers initially hated – Denton bet Sorgatz in February that Gawker Media’s pageviews would return to pre-design levels by October 1, 2011. (UPDATE: Denton writes in saying terms were that pageviews “would continue to rise.”
The date came and went earlier this week, and Sorgatz is the winner.
As a result, Denton owes Sorgatz $100, to be handed over in public and photographed. (UPDATE: Sorgatz writes to let us know that “the $$$ handover is happening this week, and being filmed by Felix from Reuters, with Lockhart Steele [the official judge[ in attendance.”)
Of course, the goal of the redesign was to increase advertising revenue with more premium spots, video, and other high CPM slots.
Denton only fell short by 10 million pageviews. He can surely afford to hand over a Benjamin.
