Nick Bilton, the New York Times’ lead technology writer, just turned down a $1.5M offer to write for CNET, Michael Arrington at Uncrunched reports.CNET, a subsidiary of CBS, hoped that Bilton would do regular television appearances and a ton of blogging.

CNET offered him $500K a year for the job.

Bilton, who Arrington estimates earns about $150K per year at the New York Times, was one of his most desired writers while he commanded the TechCrunch helm.

A source at CBS told Arrington that these estimates were “wildly innacurate,” and the total compensation offered was somewhere close to $300K.
