2:28 – The extension is now official because the union’s executive committee has approved it.
EARLIER: The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a seven-day extension for the current CBA.
It was originally surmised that the extension could be 10 days and the two sides would take the weekend to discuss their next courses of action, but with the extension only through next Friday it sounds like both sides will be working around the clock.
However, negotiations and federal mediation will be put on hold until Monday.
This is extremely encouraging news that a new deal will be reached and a lockout will be avoided. Without an extension, one source told Yahoo! Sports that it would have been “Armageddon.”
No player transactions will be allowed during the seven-day window.
