Facebook looks ready to launch a music service.Yesterday, programmer Jeff Rose downloaded the plug-in for Facebook’s Skype-based video calling service. He was curious exactly how the service worked — was it using his Skype client or new code? So he began poking around the code.

He found something better: a reference to a second Facebook app called Vibes, which will connect with some sort of dialog box to let users download music.

(The service might not be branded Vibes — the Skype software plug-in was called “Peep” in the same code, but Facebook never used that term.)

Forbes reported last month that Facebook might be planning a music service based on Spotify, and yesterday Spotify said it’s FINALLY launching its US service this month. So maybe the “awesome” announcement from Zuckerberg yesterday was supposed to include a music component.

Whatever the case, Zuckerberg said yesterday that it was only the “beginning of the launching season in 2011,” and we’ve heard separately that July is going to be a very busy month at the company.
