Remember back in January, when Newt Gingrich’s campaign was still viable? And remember when, to try to hit into Mitt Romney even more, he basically became a walking talking point for Occupy Wall Street?
That’s coming back to hurt the Republican Party as a whole.
The Barack Obama campaign is celebrating the forthcoming Gingrich drop out today by releasing a fresh attack ad on Romney — exclusively full of clips of Newt Gingrich lambasting Romney and his campaign during the primary season.
“Newt Gingrich is throwing his support behind Mitt Romney?” the ad asks.
Then it’s full of fun clips in which Gingrich goes beyond the normal attacks on Romney, because he’s Newt Gingrich and he thought he actually still had a chance to become the Republican nominee after Romney won Illinois.
There’s a clip in which he questions Romney’s credentials at Bain Capital. One in which he, too, questions Romney’s Swiss bank account. And there’s one after Illinois, when Gingrich says the campaign does not inspire “positive turnout.”
The kicker, from the campaign: “Frankly, not Mitt Romney’s biggest supporter.”
