Fundamentally, a week after announcing he was going to drop out and about three months after his campaign was last viable, Newt Gingrich is finally dropping out of the race, because he didn’t win Delaware. Watch it live here, if you really want to, frankly. We’ll update with anything notable in a bit.
Here’s some light reading on Gingrich: All his material on Romney from the Republican campaign was used to make an attack ad by the Barack Obama campaign today.
And while you wait, a look back on some of Gingrich’s finest moments on the campaign trail.
3:14: Hey, he’s dropping out.
3:17: “I could never have predicted either the high points or the low points.” No one could have.
3:18: “I want to thank Herman Cain, who was tremendous in campaigning for us on Super Tuesday.”
3:19: Gingrich apologizes to South Carolina for being the first non-eventual nominee to win the state. #Humblebrag
3:28: Goodnight, moon colony. “I thought in my role of providing material for Saturday Night Live it was helpful.”
3:32: Newt Gingrich won’t say Mitt Romney is conservative. Just says, “Compared to Barack Obama?!” and launches into a spew about “liberal, radical” Obama.
3:36, finally: “I’m not totally certain I will get to the moon colony, I am certain [my grandkids] will get to the moon colony.”
