Newt Gingrich is dampening already-low expectations for his second-quarter fundraising report, expected to be released in the next few days.In an interview with the Los Angeles Times yesterday, Gingrich admitted his fundraising to date has been lackluster.
“The fact is a month of media barrage is painful, and it slowed a lot of things down,” Gingrich said.
His campaign for the GOP nomination has struggled to recover from a series of embarrassing news stories and from the subsequent resignation of nearly his entire staff last month.
Most observers say the campaign is dead, but Gingrich likes to point out that the same thing was said of John McCain in 2007, before he rallied back to win the nomination.
