Starting with the Yankees-Red Sox MLB season opener on Sunday, New York area residents who receive the YES Network on Time Warner Cable will finally be able to watch Yankees games streaming live online in their home market.

Major League Baseball has long offered out-of-market streaming of their games, but in-market streaming has only recently become available.

Last year the YES Network and MLB reached an agreement that allows Yankees fans stuck at work to watch their favourite team make another run at the World Series, but it wasn’t available for Time Warner subscribers until now.

And now, some 6 million cable customers who subscribe to all the major area cable providers — Time Warner, Cablevision, or Verizon FiOS — can purchase the Yankees streaming package for $69.95 for the entire 2010 regular season, or $19.95 for any 30-day block.

Note that this only covers the 127 Yankees games that will air on YES; Saturday games on Fox, Sunday night games on ESPN, and other non-YES games are not included. And it does not work with’s excellent iPhone app (or its iPad app, coming soon).
