Transit Wireless, the firm controlling wireless communications for the New York subway system, announced this week that it will extend mobile phone service to 30 subway stations this year, Ted Mann reports for The Wall Street Journal.mobile phone service is already available in six stations on 14th and 23rd Streets; the new service would include much of Midtown Manhattan, including stations at Times Square and Rockefeller centre.
Mann reports that the company is planning to launch free wireless Internet in the coming weeks, available through a sponsorship agreement that has not yet been nailed down.
