After not being able to muster another end-of-the-season run, the New York Jets’ season is over.No playoffs means the blame game is beginning to be spread around, with many fans wanting offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to lose his job. The team says he is safe, but did give him permission to interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ vacant head coaching spot.
The Jets only ranked 25th in total offence in the whole league. Likewise, their passing game only ranked 21st in the NFL, adding more fodder to the discussion of whether it’s time for the Jets to consider other options at quarterback.
Rex Ryan insists Mark Sanchez is his guy and there’s no reason for anyone to think otherwise, but New York Daily News Jets beat reporter Manish Mehta thinks the team would definitely inquire about a certain injured Indianapolis Colts signal caller if he became available.
Mehta spoke with Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio about the possibility of the Jets being interested in Peyton Manning if/when they draft Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in April’s draft and put their long time face-of-the-franchise on the block or release him.
“If he is healthy, one. If he’s available, two…the Jets will inquire,” Mehta says. Listen to the full conversation via PFT below.
