Despite being a sixth seed a year ago, the Green Bay Packers run to the title wasn’t a surprise for those that were paying attention. And those paying attention this year have their eyes on the New Orleans Saints.Despite their 10-6 record in 2010, no team in the NFC, and only the New England Patriots in the NFL, outscored their opponents by more than the Packers (+148 point differential).

This year, the Packers are 15-1 and their point differential (+201) is even better. But it isn’t even the best in the NFC. That honour belongs to the Saints (+208).

And the Saints have also been the best team in the NFL down the stretch. If we look at the last eight games, the Saints are not only 8-0, but they have outscored their opponents by 137 points. The Patriots are a close second, with a point differential of +133 in the second half.

At the other end of the spectrum, four playoff teams were actually outscored in the second half, led by the Cincinnati Bengals (-34) and the Denver Broncos (-28).
