Stanford Moves Up BCS Rankings With Boise State Barely Hanging On

The top three spots in this week’s BCS rankings remain unchanged, with LSU, Alabama, and Oklahoma State in the top spots.But the big story is Stanford jumping up to the fourth spot in a shake-up of teams knocking on the BCS door.

LSU and Alabama face-off next weekend, in what is effectively a BCS elimination game.  Both teams, and Oklahoma State, control their own destiny in the BCS title chase.

But if one of those teams slips up along the way, it’s Stanford that has dibs on first available spot in the BCS dance. After beating USC in triple-overtime on Saturday night, Stanford jumped past Boise State in the BCS rankings.

Stanford must still play eighth-ranked Oregon, and Boise State has no games remaining against ranked opponents. So even if Boise State goes undefeated, they are unlikely to move ahead of Stanford. Here are the full BCS rankings:
