The NBA Lockout Is Turning Ugly

NBA Draft 2011

The NBA filed a lawsuit against its own players today, threatening to void all player contracts if the union decertifies as the NFL union did.

They also filed a complaint with National labour Relations Board, accusing the Players Association of not negotiating in good faith.

The union has already filed its own complaint to the NLRB, accusing the league of unfair labour practices.

The league’s lawsuit is basically asking a court to officially rule that the lockout is legal and does not violate any antitrust laws.

The lockout picture was already grim, with both sides far apart on most major issues and most experts assuming that significant parts of the 2011-12 season (if not the whole thing) will be lost. The introduction of litigation is not going to help bring everyone together into one happy family.
