NASA’s Terra satellite captured this stunning image of Super Typhoon Maysak overnight showing powerful thunderstorms circling its eye.
The typhoon is approaching Category 5 hurricane status on the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale and is just north of Palau in the Pacific Ocean.
Winds at the centre are around 240km/h but are expected to weaken over the next 24 hours as the typhoon approaches the Central Luzon Region of the Philippines.
Astronaut Terry Virts, on board the International Space Station, also took an incredible snap looking into the eye of the storm:
