Most Americans Have Little Confidence That Congress Will Solve The Nation's Problems

As the debt ceiling negotiations come to a close, a new poll shows a majority of Americans have little or no confidence in the nation’s legislative branch.According to a National Journal poll released today, only 7 per cent of Americans have “a lot of confidence” in Congress, which 58 per cent have serious doubts about whether the Senate and the House can move the nation forward in the next year.

Over 80 per cent of those polled believe that Democrats and Republicans in Congress are “bickering and opposing one another more than usual” this year.

President Barack Obama’s leadership during the debt limit fight was deemed “more responsible” by 48 per cent of those polled, compared to 31 per cent for Republicans in Congress.
