This is not the traditional Mitt Romney wealth gaffe after a big primary win, but it’s a gaffe nonetheless.
Here’s Romney, hitting President Barack Obama hard for…attending Harvard and spending a lot of time there.
“We have a president, who I think is is a nice guy, but he spent too much time at Harvard, perhaps. Or maybe just not enough time actually working in the real world. I think to create jobs in the private sector it helps to have had a job in the private sector.”
But there’s a huge problem: Mitt Romney spent more time studying at Harvard than Obama. Obama studied there for three years, where he graduated with a law degree. Romney spent four years there, graduating with both a law degree and business degree.
It’s a point Romney has made often during his campaign. In September, Romney hit Obama with the line that he takes economic advice from the “Harvard faculty lounge.” And in a foreign policy address in August, he played up the “faculty lounge” line again.
Three of Romney’s sons also attended Harvard, and according to Talking Points Memo, 14 of his close advisers — including more than a third of his foreign policy team have Harvard degrees. In September, the Huffington Post found that Harvard professors or their spouses had donated $56,000 to the Romney campaign.
