Faced with an unexpectedly long and expensive primary battle, Mitt Romney is making an appeal to small, online donors with a new video that mocks Democrats’ efforts to derail his campaign in Michigan.
The video, released this morning, is rather alarmist, suggesting that the Obama re-election machine is spending vast sums of money to implement a “Kill Romney” strategy.” Shot from the point of view of an unseen Obama campaign fundraiser, the 1-minute spot features a montage of pro-Romney news clips interlaced with frustrated “emails” between Obama staffers.
The ad is the latest sign that the Romney campaign is strapped for cash, coming on the heels of the candidate’s bizarre election night plug for online donations. Romney’s team clearly did not bargain for an ongoing game of GOP Whack-A-Mole, and it appears to be taking its toll on the campaign’s war chest.
