A key witness in the Jerry Sandusky case, former assistant coach Mike McQueary took the stand today to testify.McQueary witnessed Sandusky allegedly molesting a young boy in a shower at a Penn State facility in 2001.
McQueary retold his story with disturbing details. From The Patriot News:
“Sandusky was standing right up against the back of the young boy with his arms wrapped around (the boy’s) midsection in the closest proximity I think you can be. I was extremely alarmed, flustered and shocked.”
McQueary returned to his locker and slammed it, as if to say “someone is here, stop.”
“I wasn’t thinking 100 per cent right,” McQueary told the jury. “I’m used to pressure situations, but that’s more than I could handle at the time.”
McQueary said he then returned to his office and called his father:
“I did not get overly into detail but I made sure he knew it was extremely wrong, extremely sexual. [I remembered saying] you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to find out what was going on.”
The next day, with the advice of his father, McQueary went to tell Joe Paterno. He said he did not go into detail with Paterno because of embarrassment, but he told the head coach that it was sexual and wrong. Their entire conversation lasted about 10-12 minutes. When asked by prosecutor Joe McGettigan if he witnessed anal sex, McQueary responded: “I thought I saw that, yes.”
McQueary’s story he told in court today, matched what he said in the Grand Jury report.
