Mike Huckabee is reportedly taking another look at throwing his hat into the 2012 Republican presidential race.According to Reuters, sources close to the former Arkansas Governor say he is rethinking bid after being approached by conservative activists unhappy with the current presidential field.
A former Baptist minister, Huckabee is extremely popular with the GOP’s Evangelical base, and he is an effective campaigner to boot — his upset win in the 2008 Iowa caucuses vaulted him to national political stardom and many thought he would make a second White House run in 2012.
Huckabee announced in May that he would not run this year, and is widely thought to be focused on other, more lucrative, pursuits. But sources say he may be reconsidering.
“He is entertaining the request for conversations about it,” one of the sources told Reuters. “I do not think it is a complete 100 per cent ‘I’m reconsidering’ but he hasn’t shut the door on it.”
