Co-founders of Atlassian Michael Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar have joined the list of the world’s 500 richest people after their company’s stock soared on Friday.

Having raised their fortunes by $A1.4 billion this year already, they’re both now worth $A5.2 billion each, making them the 499th and 500th richest people in the world on Bloomberg Billionaire’s Index.

The list includes Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet in the top spots.

Farquhar and Cannon-Brookes may sit towards the bottom of the list but have similar-sized fortunes to ousted Uber-CEO Travis Kalanick and Barry Lam, chair of tech company Quanta Computer.

This year, Atlassian stock has jumped by a third, after profits grew 43 per cent since the end of December.

Farquhar and Cannon-Brookes in May last year said that they were scouting for more expansion opportunities in cloud hosting infrastructure in Europe and Asia.

Company president Jay Simons told Business Insider that although the company has had a lot of good news lately, it still has a lot of room to grow.
