Microsoft sent out press invites this afternoon to an event in San Francisco where it’ll show off the completed version of its new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8.The event will be on October 29, four days after its bit Windows 8 launch event in New York.

Until now, Microsoft has only shown a few of the new consumer-facing features in Windows Phone 8 at events for the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8x.

But even though Microsoft was showing off two top-tier phones with its hardware partners, the operating system was still incomplete. In fact, members of the press weren’t allowed to use Nokia and HTC’s phones because the software wasn’t ready.

The October 29 event will be the first time we see the finished Windows Phone 8 product in action. We expect Nokia’s Lumia 920 and HTC’s Windows Phone 8x to launch shortly after.
