Michael Moore lead the crowd last night in a lengthy call-and-response (or ‘human microphone’ as they are calling it down there) articulating the reasons protestors have come to Wall St.
Has Occupy Wall St just found its leader and its message? This is rather amazing.
“This is a historic day. This movement has come together because the people wanted it to happen. Not because of a leader. Not because of a dues-paying organisation, but because the people wanted it. I love the human microphone and I’ll tell you why. Because this isn’t just my voice or his voice or her voice. It’s all of our voices. Let’s keep the movement like this. Do not let politicians co-opt this movement. Each one of you here today represents another 100,000 Americans who couldn’t be here today but are happy that you are here. And they will be there in their cities. The occupy movement is everywhere. Occupy! Everywhere!
“The men on the top floors of these buildings — especially you, Goldman Sachs — they are responsibly for ruining the lives of millions of people — hundreds of millions of people — on this planet. Someone in the media just asked me, ‘Who organised this?’ I said [points up to buildings], ‘They organised this!’
“They took their boot and put it on the necks of the American people and now the American people want that boot removed. Now. Not next year. Now! We’ve had it. Enough is enough. The dirtiest word in corporate America is ‘enough.’ They can’t get enough. They weren’t satisfied with being just filthy rich. They wanted to be something better than filthy rich and this is what they got. They may have stolen trillions of dollars but we are here to say we want that money back. When do we want the money back? When do we want the money back?”
