The homeless man who had his face savaged over Memorial Day weekend is “awake and alert.”Doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma centre showed reporters Tuesday a picture of Ronald Poppo walking down a hospital hallway, the AP reported.
He was supported by hospital staff.
Poppo was attacked over the holiday weekend when Rudy Eugene reportedly chewed off his face and growled at police. Eugene was shot and killed at the scene.
Police have since said they believe Eugene was under the influence of drugs and a large number of unidentified pills were found in his stomach.
In the picture shown to reporters, the upper two-thirds of Poppo’s face was covered in scabs.
His nose was missing and both eye sockets were covered with gauze, the AP reported.
