NASA satellite measurements calculate that since 2004, Antarctica as a whole is losing 130 billion tons of ice each year. This is the weight equivalent of 356,000 Empire State Buildings. This dramatic melting could cause serious issues for coastal cities around the world. According to The World Bank, cities like Miami, New York and New Orleans could potentially face up to $US1 trillion a year in flood damage in the coming decades.
