Last week, upstart social network, Path, made a big hire when it added Shakil Khan.Prior to joining Path, Khan was in charge of “special projects” for another hot startup, Spotify.
At Path, he’s going to have the same title.
Khan isn’t well known like some of the rockstar founders he works for, but his hiring turned a lot of heads.
On Twitter, Shervin Pishevar, a prominent angel investor, called it “huge.” Greg Clayman of The Daily called Khan an “International superspy,” and said, Path “doubles in valuation,” with Khan on board.
Why all the love for Khan?
A person close to Khan said he was “extremely loyal” and would “give the shirt off his back” for you. He delivers on everything he promises and is extremely passionate about whatever he works on, this person said.
Both of those go a very long way in Silicon Valley, which prizes loyalty and charisma in an ecosystem that demands people be ready to change their jobs on an almost regular basis.
He was the “fixer” at Spotify, where he oversaw special projects — such as wrangling celebrities and expanding Spotify’s user base, according to one person familiar with Khan.
He’s also very good at raising money. At one point, he raised $200,000 for a charity called Charity:water — in 7 days, according to a person close to him. Coincidentally, both Path is in the process of raising money at a big valuation.
According to AllThingsD, he will officially focus on “growth and international issues.” Path CEO Dave Morin told AllThingsD Khan would “help us reach and serve our members and partners across the globe in a uniquely personal way.”
