A few weeks ago a photo of Kenny Soriano-Garcia, a McDonald’s cashier in Chicago, went viral on Facebook.
The photo showed Soriano-Garcia helping an elderly man cut his food during “one of the busiest times” at the franchise’s location. Now the cashier is being honored by McDonald’s “for his extraordinary customer service.”
It all started after a McDonald’s customer, Destiny Carreno, noticed Sorian-Garcia’s act of kindness and posted a photo of it on Facebook.
Here’s her post. It’s already been shared more than 400,000 times.
Carreno was getting ready to order her food when she noticed an elderly, handicapped man in a wheelchair in front of her, she explains in the post’s lengthy caption.
“The man politely tried to ask the cashier something and it took him a few tries before either of us could understand he was saying ‘Help me please,'” Carreno wrote in the caption. “Neither of us knew what help he needed, and the cashier suggested a few things before he figured out the gentleman needed help cutting and eating his meal.”
Instead of continuing with his cashier duties, Soriano-Garcia abandoned his post, washed his hands, and helped the man cut and eat his meal, Carreno explained.
“At that point, the tears started to gather in my eyes. My heart was so appreciative for what he did,” she wrote. “This employee, who put everything on hold for this man, went above and beyond his responsibilities to help this handicapped customer out. That was the kindest and most humble thing I had ever seen.”
Looks like McDonald’s agrees. Several weeks after Carreno’s post, the company shared a photo on Facebook of Soriano-Garcia holding a certificate of recognition for his “extraordinary customer service.”
“Crew Members like Kenny [Soriano-Garcia] embody the lovin’ mentality shared by all of us at McDonald’s,” McDonald’s explained in the caption.
Here’s that post.
And here’s the full caption:
We are so proud to recognise Kenny Soriano-Garcia, a crew member at one of Rod Lubeznik’s Chicago restaurants, for going above and beyond his cashier responsibilities to help out a customer. Last week, Kenny went out of his way to help out a gentleman who needed assistance with his meal during one of the busiest times at the downtown Chicago restaurant. Customer Destiny Carreno captured this moment and shared it with her social network. We were able to thank Kenny on Wednesday for his extraordinary customer service. Crew Members like Kenny embody the lovin’ mentality shared by all of us at McDonald’s. Thank you Kenny and all crew members at McDonald’s restaurants who show that acts of kindness can touch the hearts of many.
